It's astonishing to me that someone so rational and rigorous will, without breaking stride, declare without evidence that "DEI-based hiring will sadly increase the number of those with lower ability, just as in any other field of endeavor." Just an absolutely wild example of motivated reasoning from someone who almost certainly never forgets to check their blind spots (in the physical world).

I’m confused. Can you help me understand your reasoning here?

Abstractly, if attribute K which is uncorrelated with merit is considered favorably during hiring, then merit will decrease as an outcome as compared to the baseline where attribute K is not considered, unless attribute K is used strictly as a tie breaker.

Do you think that DEI considerations are in fact strictly used as a tie breaker, and specifically in a government setting? Are there enough ties in the real world for the representation needle to be moved based on altering only tie decisions? I am skeptical of both of these based on my experience with DEI practices, and as far as I know they have moved the representation needle so something must be false.

I’m curious how you are thinking about it though, you sound fairly confident.

Evidence can probably be given one way or another whether or not DEI impacts performance of an operation (my hypothesis is that it doesn’t and it’s just another boogeyman). All it takes is research. Though even if it’s rigorously demonstrated one way or another, few will care. The guessers are in charge.

They're normalizing the lunacy. If any Democrat politician (or pre-Trump Republican politician) declared that the cause of a plane crash is linked to their favorite political cause, on the day of the accident, they would've been skewered by the media for being a ghoul taking advantage of a tragedy.

But when Trump does it everybody pretends it's totally normal and we're supposed to discuss the merit of DEI on aviation with a straight face.

    It has to stop.

Are you implying, sir, that the ~~Dear Leader's~~ President's use of his own "common sense" did not immediately and precisely identify the root cause of the crash, such that no NTSB investigation need be undertaken?! /s
